Music Theory 2: Applying The Note Circle

Have you ever wondered the difference between chords, scales, and arpeggios?

This grade is all about making that very clear to you! :)

We'll also learn how to apply the circle note to your fretboard, meaning you'll know the name of every note on the guitar neck! Then, we'll learn how to read guitar chord boxes and guitar tablatures so you can create your very own chord book.

The best news is that the yellow grade is also pretty easy. :) You should be able to complete it in a few days, but don't rush through it! If it takes longer, that's okay too. The focus here is on consolidating your knowledge of the Note Circle and applying it to the guitar. Remember when I said that there's no point in learning things you can't use?

So make sure that you're able to work out the name of any note from the first five frets of the guitar using your Note Circle knowledge before you move on to Grade 3! ;)

Don't Skip The Basics!

Putting music theory into practice is essential, but many guitar players often overlook it. Musicians playing any other instrument have to know the notes they are playing from their first lesson, and I find it absurd that many guitarists seem to think it’s okay not to learn them.

Playing guitar without learning music theory is possible, but you'll struggle to move beyond the beginner guitar level without it. Stick with it, and the light bulb will go on. It will activate the superpower! :)
