In this lesson, you'll learn some quick tips on how to memorize guitar songs. In reality, you're not going to carry your own songbook everywhere you go. So, you need a backup plan in place!

At some point, you might even find yourself at a party with someone that would love to hear you jam! It's in those special moments that it's fantastic to know some easy songs from memory. Here's how to make sure you've always got a few songs ready to play on guitar! I'll also give you some guitar song suggestions that are super easy to memorize!

How To Memorize Easy Songs On Guitar

First, you want to learn a couple of simple songs. They should only have a couple of chords with simple strumming patterns. It's also a good idea that the chords included are some that you enjoy playing. But most importantly, pick songs you really love - they will always be more memorable to you!

The goal is to build an internal song repertoire of 4-5 songs. To memorize them, focus on remembering the chord order and progression. Make sure only to pick very repetitive songs with simple verses.

Why You Should Memorize Songs On Guitar

I know it can be tempting and seem more impressive to show off complex songs to your peers. But it's more pleasant for everyone - and less stressful for you - if you can easily play songs from memory. In addition, you want to be able to play them with confidence.

This way, you won't find yourself scrolling around your phone trying to find chords online. Of course, in the long term, you'll eventually memorize more difficult guitar songs. I know it's tempting, but for now, keep it simple!

Easy Songs To Memorize On Guitar

Here are some of my party favourite songs that are great to memorize, with different chord options! Note: the link for 'Get Lucky' is to a ukulele, not guitar, lesson.

Easy guitar songs using 2 chords:

Dance The Night Away - The Mavericks (one bar each, D to A)
Songs for Module 1 with super easy 2 chords songs!
Sing - Ed Sheeran (four bars each, Em to Am)
Songs for Module 3 (Using the Am and Em Army!)

Easy guitar songs using 3 chords:

Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry (12-bar form, A D E)
Wild Thing - the Troggs (A D E D, half bar each)
Songs for Module 2(A, D, and E)

Easy guitar songs using 4 chords & repetitive patterns:

Get Lucky - Daft Punk (one bar each, Am C Em D)
Knockin' On Heaven's Door (G D Am G D C, half bars on G and D, whole bars on Am and C)
